There are currently 42 language teachers working in the municipal kindergartens; last year 72 percent of the children required language training. The situation has only worsened due to the pandemic and fewer attendance times.
A pilot project will start in two municipal kindergartens in autumn to reduce language deficits. The “Word & Sound Detectives”, as the project is called, consists of many modules that language teachers can use. The teaching material purchased by the city of Wels consists, for example, of a game box with which the vocabulary can be expanded very easily. The children can practice sentence formation without time-consuming preparation. The material is supplemented by walk-in learning mats with which the German language can be improved with all of the senses.
