Language law: six TV channels face sanctions

In the activities of broadcasters recorded from one to six violations

The authorities checked the activities of 28 television and radio organizations that carry out nationwide on-air television broadcasting.

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremin appealed to the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting with a request to impose sanctions against six TV channels for violating the law on the Ukrainian language. About this he reported on Tuesday, July 20, on his Facebook page.

According to the language ombudsman, his subordinates on July 16-17 monitored the activities of 28 television and radio organizations that carry out nationwide on-air television broadcasting.

“According to the monitoring results, violations of the law on the state language were revealed – films and series were shown in Russian by the TV channels Inter, Ukraine, ICTV, Mega, NTN, K1, about which the relevant acts were drawn up,” the message says.

So, most of all violations (six) were recorded on Inter, five on the Ukraine TV channel, two on ICTV and Mega, one on NTN and K1 each.

“Taking into account the above, I sent a letter to the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting with a request to apply the sanctions specified by the legislation to the mentioned television and radio organizations,” wrote Kremin.

At the same time, he stressed, appeals were sent to TV channels, in which the need to comply with the norms of the law was emphasized.
