The fact is that, according to Kremenya, parts 2 and 6 of Article 27 of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as a State Language” come into force on July 16.
It means that:
- any product on which a computer program is installed – from a car to a washing machine or an electric coffee maker, must be “localized” for sale in Ukraine. The product must have a Ukrainian-language interface, regardless of whether this interface uses an electronic screen or has the form of a control panel with conventional buttons;
- all Internet resources (websites, pages in social networks, YouTube, viber, telegram channels, mobile applications, etc.) that are used as Internet representations of business entities registered in Ukraine, including information Internet resources should have a main version in Ukrainian, which should be loaded for users by default. The Ukrainian-language version of the Internet representation of a foreign business entity selling products in Ukraine may have a smaller amount of information than the main version, but sufficient for a user from Ukraine to fully understand the purpose of the activity of this entity.
Kremen added that now those who serve consumers on the Internet are required to have a full version in Ukrainian, which should be the main one (contain the maximum amount of information) and be loaded by default.
According to him, if site owners ignore the requirement for a Ukrainian version of the site, this may mean a deliberate violation of the requirements of the law on the state language.
“This, in turn, will mean the intention of the owner of the Internet resource to be outside the legal field of Ukraine and cause reasonable distrust of the information published on the resource,” Kremen stressed.
Therefore, entrepreneurs have another month to prepare for innovations, if changes on Internet sites have not been introduced earlier. By the way, the amount of the fine is from 3400 to 8500 UAH if the violation is committed for the first time. For a repeated violation, a fine from UAH 8,500 to UAH 11,900 will be imposed.
