Mainz (dpa / lrs) – The Rhineland-Palatinate CDU parliamentary group leader Christian Baldauf has called for a new Rhine crossing between Worms and Speyer to relieve the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. This would not solve all the problems associated with the closure of the Ludwigshafener Hochstrasse Süd, Baldauf said on Thursday in the state parliament in Mainz. But this is part of the solution. A dialogue process must be started, which the government must first initiate and then moderate.
AfD representative Jan Bollinger also advocated another bridge in Rhine-Neckar. Nothing happened here for a long time, and the CDU only rediscovered the topic after the “high road disaster”. The transport policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, Benedikt Oster, said: “The fact that we need more bridges cannot be denied.” But that cannot be done without the participation of the people and those responsible in the region. And in the Rhine-Neckar region there is still no uniform opinion on the location of a bridge.
Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) said the state government was constantly working on comprehensive transport planning for the whole of Rhineland-Palatinate. The results of the online survey on the mobility consensus, in which citizens were asked, among other things, about the means of transport of their choice, are also incorporated here. Wissing intends to present the results next Wednesday (February 5th).
