Landtag – Dresden – Linke calls for a round table to deal with the pandemic policy

Dresden (dpa / sn) – In view of the serious number of corona infections in Saxony, the left has accused the state government of massive omissions and called for a “Corona Round Table”. The government of Michael Kretschmer (CDU) failed to take important precautionary measures over the summer, wrote the leaders of the parliamentary group and the state party in a joint statement on Saturday.

“The state government has played a big part in the fact that the situation is so dramatic today and that a hard lockdown threatens if the hospitals continue to fill up.” On the other hand, the vast majority of Saxons behaved sensibly and now suffer from the fact that harder cuts are necessary.

The leftists Rico Gebhardt, Susanne Schaper and Stefan Hartmann warned to set up a permanent round table digitally. Representatives of those affected by the protective measures and who could help shape them, such as welfare and business associations, trade unions and cultural organizations, should be involved in it. The government must also disclose plans for a corona vaccination and involve the state parliament.

In addition, the left called for the burden of the crisis to be cushioned socially. On the one hand, they spoke out in favor of taking out new loans; on the other hand for a corona property levy for the richest percent of society. “Those who claim their pockets in the fat years at the expense of the majority must do their part to mitigate the consequences in times of crisis,” the statement said.
