Landslides have claimed over 100 lives in western India

At least three major landslides occurred in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, about 100 kilometers south of Mumbai, on Friday night.

At least 38 people arrived in a landslide in the town of Taliye, which is about 180 km from Mumbai. In the same state, nine other landslides were registered, which cost a total of 57 lives. Another 15 have died in accidents related to the heavy rain, the authorities say.

Several people are still missing, and rescue operations are underway.

Around 1,000 residents have been evacuated from the area, many of them after seeking refuge on rooftops. On Friday, the rain subsided somewhat, and the water level dropped.
