A crisis meeting was held early Monday morning and an interservice command post was set up during the day by the sub-prefect of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, the day after the landslide that took place this Sunday, August 27 in Frenay, Savoie.

This Monday evening, the prefect of Savoie calls on motorists and inhabitants of the municipalities concerned to “Be careful in this sector” and ensure that “all the services are mobilized to secure the area and to allow the continuation of the economic activities of the territory”.

A few minutes after the landslide, the Savoy prefecture announced that it had occurred in a “particularly guarded sector“.
“We came close to disaster” confides Jean-Claude Raffin, the mayor of Modane, a town located a few kilometers from the site of the landslide. Impressed by the images, the city councilor recalls that “there have been landslides in the area for more than twenty years“but that significant security work had been carried out in recent years.
We did not expect a landslide of this magnitude.
