First report from June 14th: Frankfurt/Steinau an der Straße – A landslide caused significant restrictions on rail traffic on Tuesday (June 14). Hesse. Apparently only long-distance traffic is affected, but to a significant extent. “Only one track is available for rail operations. There are train and stop cancellations and delays,” says Deutsche Bahn (DB).

Landslide near Steinau an der Straße: train chaos in Hesse until the evening?

This has a massive impact, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Tuesday. Also different connections over the airport Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Central Station are cancelled. The following ICE and IC connections in and through Hesse are affected by the landslide on the route between Fulda and Hanau:

  • The ICE trains on the route Berlin – Braunschweig – Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe – Fulda – Frankfurt (M) Süd – Frankfurt (M) Airport are canceled in both directions between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Frankfurt (M) Airport.
  • The ICE trains on the route Wiesbaden – Frankfurt (M) Airport – Frankfurt (M) Hbf – Fulda – Erfurt – Leipzig – Dresden are canceled in both directions between Wiesbaden and Fulda.
  • The ICE trains on the route Hamburg – Hanover – Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe – Frankfurt (M) Hbf – Frankfurt (M) Airport – Stuttgart will be delayed in both directions between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Frankfurt (M) Hbf by around 50 minutes and will also be diverted in both directions between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Mannheim. There is no stop at Frankfurt Airport.
  • All other IC/ICE trains between Fulda and Hanau/Frankfurt(M) are running on their scheduled routes, but are delayed by around 15 minutes.

It is currently unclear how long the restrictions on rail traffic will last. A company spokesman told Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) that the clean-up work will take the whole day. After all, local transport is hardly affected. For all those who wanted to use the ICE or the IC to cover the route around Steinau an der Straße, that shouldn’t be much of a consolation. (fd)

Recently, a new one took care of it IC connection through Hesse for headlines. There are more problems there.
