Music and dance programs, crafts, and local food await visitors on September 16 in the Szentendre Skanzen, where country houses, traditionalist associations, and folk dance groups from different parts of the country will present themselves.
In connection with the thematic year of the Open-Air Museum of Ethnography, the program focuses on mills and activities related to mills – reads the museum’s announcement sent to MTI.
As written, it will be about harvesting, the image of the miller in Hungarian folklore, and the appearance of the mill in folklore. Visitors can get to know the different grinds and the dishes made from them.
Those interested can try manual grinding, taste shaped pie and miller’s cake, and listen to miller’s tales. During the handicraft sessions, they can make a basket hat, a cup rose, a straw ring, make felt and make paper out of cane.
During the event, almost five hundred members of twenty communities fill the landscape units of the Skanzen North Hungarian Village and the Upland Market City with life, bringing their games, food, dances, and songs. In addition to the events taking place at the gate, a stage show is also being prepared, where those interested can see dances, customs, songs, live storytelling and a barn theater performance.
As in previous years, this year the Skanzen will also celebrate the jubilant country houses, and the common apple tree planting will not be missed either, the announcement reads.
As they write, the event is jointly organized by the Central Board of Hungarian Landscape Houses, the Association of Hungarian Landscape Houses and the Muharay Elemér Folk Art Association.
