Piastri was less than a second clear of Norris on the 12th lap, so Norris was able to turn on the DRS to get away from Leclerc, who was also under pressure from Verstappen. Going into lap 16, Norris was already ahead of Leclerc by more than a second.
Leclerc was finally passed by Verstappen on the 18th lap, while Piastri, at the request of the team, was reduced to exchanging positions with Norris on the 22nd lap so that the British racer could finish ahead.
One lap later, a virtual safety car was activated after Nico Hulkenberg’s car stopped due to technical problems, but the green flag came back on the last lap. Verstappen had time to move to pass Piastri, but failed in the end.
Norris finished at the front, followed by Piastri who maintained a 1-2 position for McLaren. Verstappen finished third, followed by the Ferrari duo, Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in positions 4-5. George Russell, Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez complete the top eight in the points standings.
With this result, Norris closed the gap slightly with Verstappen in the standings. Eight more points mean that he has now collected 323 points, a difference of 45 points from Verstappen who has 368 points.
