Lando Norris was taken to hospital after his crash at the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, but McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has confirmed that Norris has been released from the hospital. Norris spun into the wall early in the 50-lap race. After he was treated at the circuit’s medical center, he was transferred to nearby University Medical Center.
The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) said he had been removed from the circuit for a “precautionary investigation”, but Norris, 24, is now confirmed to be fully recovered. “Rand has been discharged from the hospital,” Stella admitted. “All the tests came back negative, so that’s good news for Lando.” Norris was running 13th at the time behind his teammate Oscar Piastri. The McLaren entered a high-speed left-hand corner at Turn 11 on the third lap, and as it approached the braking zone at Turn 12, it skidded and collided violently with the barrier. “There’s a bump in that spot,” Stella explained. “When you go over this bump, you see all the cars sparkling.” “Maybe it was the combination of the bump and the cold tires that spooked him.” “Other than that, e.g. There’s no problem.” The race was stopped on the opening lap due to three separate incidents at the first corner. There was debris on the track and a virtual safety car was deployed for marshals to remove it. The race resumed on the third lap, but tire temperature and air pressure dropped during the suspension. While acknowledging that was a contributing factor, Stella called for immediate action to be taken on that part of the circuit. “If we continue racing at night, I think that bump should be fixed, because the tires are always cold and the grip is low, making it a very tricky corner,” Stella explained. “We’ve already seen cases of oversteer over there over the weekend. “So, apart from the timetable, I highly recommend smoothing out this bump.” McLaren’s Piastri finished 10th, Earned bonus points for test lap.
