Lando Norris smashed Max Verstappen’s porcelain trophy in Hungary. He apologized for it at Spa.
Lando Norris wanted to open the champagne by knocking the bottom of the bottle against the edge of the stage. But during this maneuver, Verstappen’s trophy fell from the top step and broke.
“I want to apologize for that,” Norris said, as quoted by RacingNews365. “Of course I didn’t intend to do something like that and I know how much it means to Hungarians and it’s part of their culture.”
“I never intended to do such a thing and I have apologized to Max. I know I made a few jokes out of it, which maybe I shouldn’t have. I know if it was my trophy I would be upset, so I’m sorry for that.”
“Because of all the people who put time and effort into making it, I really didn’t want that to happen, so I’ll be more careful next time I celebrate.”
Asked if there would be a need to change the approach to celebrations, Norris said: “There’s no reason why I should, I’m just going to be more careful. I’ll just push the trophies aside and then move on.”
