Landlords stop with nomination: readily paid for | Money

The fact that people pay thousands of euros for a chance to win a private sector rental home is a new low in the overheated housing market. Large real estate owners such as Vesteda, Bouwinvest and Heimstaden are therefore stopping the nomination of new tenants, NOS reported on Tuesday.

In exchange for the nomination, sitting tenants often asked new tenants to take over the floor and curtains. But for that they sometimes had to pay more than €10,000. For example, a landlord asked $11,000 for a laminate floor and some furniture.

A spokesperson for Vesteda calls this ‘a disguised and dubious way to ask for key money’ to the NOS. About a quarter of the company’s more than 27,000 homes are let via-via.

fairer

Vesteda no longer accepts nominations for homes up to €1400 per month. Bouwinvest will stop with homes up to €1200 per month and Heimstaden will stop with all homes. The large rental companies also indicate that this gives tenants a fairer chance of finding a home.

For tenants who have deposited a large sum for their rental home, it is a bitter pill: they no longer receive this money from a new tenant when they leave. However, agreements may still be made about the acquisition of, for example, a floor with the new tenant that the rental company has presented.
