After the corona-related trade tax loss, the city receives compensation from the federal and state levels
The city of Offenbach receives more than 23 million euros from the state of Hesse as compensation for trade tax income that has not been paid due to the corona pandemic. “Offenbach was hit particularly hard by the effects of the Corona crisis. The support is urgently needed, ”said Economy Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens). The state and federal government are supporting Hesse’s municipalities in the Corona crisis with more than 1.2 billion euros.
“For the state of Hesse, the share of more than 660 million euros is a huge sum. But the consequences of the pandemic for cities and communities are also enormous, ”Al-Wazir emphasized.
Lord Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD) said when handing over the decision that this initiative was “spot on”. “Of course, financial problems continue to threaten for the period from 2021 onwards. Here the treasurers and the mayors are in good talks with the state government through the city council. ”“ The high compensation for the loss of trade tax income contributes significantly to the fact that we will probably not have any outstanding liquidity loans at the end of this year either. This ensures that the city can afford all the necessary expenses this year ”, says Mayor Peter Freier (CDU). Offenbach could “say thank you for the great support.”
However, says Freier, it is already foreseeable that the municipalities in general and Offenbach in particular will also need separate financial support in the coming years.
