In recent months, it has been said many times that the iconic Italian brand Lancia is about to be reborn. Now it looks like there will soon be more realistic outlines in the world – the Stellantis concern, to which it belongs, has assigned it a new chief designer, Jean-Pierre Plouý.
–
He began his long career with Renault, where he signed the original Twing from the early 1990s, later working for Volkswagen and Ford, before joining the PSA Group. There, since 1999, he has held the position of chief designer of Citroën and, in addition to several production cars, created the C-SportLounge, C-Métisse and GT concepts.

“The Lancia Renaissance is an exciting challenge. It is an iconic brand in which we will restore its historical position in Europe and use its great potential, ”he said. The brand will develop models with Alfa Romeo and DS, and there is speculation that the first new car will be in the B-SUV class on the CMP platform, which would mean another sibling for Peugeot 2008. If this is a wise first step, time will tell.
–
Fiat almost buried this brand years ago. Later, during the existence of the FCA Group, chryslers with the Lancia logo were sold in Europe for a while, and when this strategy was not successful, the brand was to end completely.
–
But in Italy she survived – with a single model named Ypsilon, which has existed since 2011 with several minor upgrades. This model is very successful in its domestic market, despite the fact that few people would call it the best car in its segment. Lancia certainly deserves a new chance for a full life.
