The Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Facility, also known as the Lancaster Lagoon, is located in west Saint John between Highway 1 and Sand Cove Road. The City of Saint John plans to upgrade the aeration system at the Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Facility to update equipment and improve treatment efficiency. To accommodate the new aeration system, a temporary bypass will be installed to redirect incoming wastewater from the aeration lagoon to an existing settling pond within the wastewater treatment facility. The settling pond will provide treatment of incoming wastewater, but at a reduced level compared to full operation of the treatment facility. The temporary wastewater diversion will occur for approximately three months during the spring of 2025. Once the new aeration system is installed and operational, incoming wastewater flow will be diverted back to the oxygenation pond for regular operation. The new aeration system will extend the life of the Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Facility and increase treatment capacity.
This work will be carried out in accordance with the terms and conditions set out in the City of Saint John regulatory approvals. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, please contact service@saintjohn.ca or call (506) 658-4455.
