The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona will join this Friday in honoring the migrants who died at sea within the framework of the collaboration with the Lampedusa Cross pilgrimage, symbol of the immigration drama, which will arrive this Friday in the town of Pontevedra.
After almost seven years of traveling around the world, the cross will arrive in Baiona from Vigo to later continue its pilgrimage to Tui. This Friday he left the Port of Vigo.
The Lampedusa Cross is a piece made by the carpenter Francesco Tuccio with wood from shipwrecked canoes off the Italian coast, in which thousands of immigrants have died in their attempt to find a better life.
At more than eight feet high, five feet wide and weighing about 60 kilos, the cross was blessed by Pope Francis in 2014, shortly after a migrant boat was shipwrecked off the island of Lampedusa and 366 people died.
