The German internationals have had problems since moving to Stamford Bridge but have the support of their manager
Frank Lampard has insisted he has no worries about Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, with the Chelsea manager confident that the summer signings will prove to be great assets for the Blues.
Werner and Havertz arrived at Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, but both have experienced difficult transitions in Premier League life.
Werner started well and scored five goals in four games in October and November, but he is now on a nine-game streak without finding the target in all competitions.
The Germany international almost broke his pre-drought against West Ham on Monday with a strike on the bar and Lampard believes that extra work in training will pay off soon.
“We always do extra finishes in training and I think it’s very important to do specific work for the forwards,” Lampard told Sky Sports. “I never thought you could score the weekend if you didn’t work on it all week long, so that’s a big part of what we do.
“Timo had a period where things didn’t go very well for him and forwards are judged by goals. He is positioning himself very consistently and I think once he scores a goal or two, we’ll see a lot more from him. He works hard in training like we always do. “
Havertz has shown quality lightning, but his season has been disrupted by a positive coronavirus test and Lampard says the Germany international has been hit hard by the Covid-19.
“He was just starting to play really well when he caught the Covid and had pretty heavy symptoms with it,” Lampard said of Havertz. “It took him a while to recover, but he’s coming back to a better level now. He’s a very talented player, a good young player with a good attitude.
“I have no doubts that he will be a very great player for the club. It is important that we remain patient in the short term, but Kai is a huge talent.”
Havertz and Werner are hoping to be involved when Chelsea take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Boxing Day.
