In a press conference before Manchester City-Chelsea this Sunday (3 p.m. GMT), Frank Lampard said that Skyblues goal machine Erling Haaland has not yet reached the level of Didier Drogba, his former Blues teammate.
Lampard and Drogba had wonderful years at Chelsea with winning the Champions League in 2012 the highlight of their time at Stamford Bridge. The former Ivorian striker was the torchbearer of the London club for several seasons and remains to this day the top foreign scorer in its history.
Asked about the monumental season being achieved by Erling Haaland, author of 51 goals so far, Lampard congratulated him but believes that he still has to work before reaching the level of longevity of a certai.n Drogba. “Didier had this impact over a long period. Haaland is more in the moment. All to his credit,” he said.
Before revealing that he wanted to sign him during his first stint on the Chelsea bench. “A fantastic stat. I have immense respect. I tried to bring him to Chelsea last time I was here. His level at that time was very clear. Thanks to him”added Lampard.
