New Coventry manager Frank Lampard (46) says he is ready to prove doubters wrong after joining the Championship club on Thursday.
Lampardhis direction Chelsea from 2019 to 2021 and Everton from 2022 to 2023, faced criticism when he briefly returned to Stamford Bridge as caretaker manager last year, when the London club had won one and lost eight of their 11 games under his leadership.
“When I joined Chelsea, I did a bit of babysitting, which meant I was in charge of the club for seven weeks.”, the former England midfielder told the media.
“I learned a lot, not in terms of coaching, because it wasn’t a coaching situation, but as a babysitter during the transition period. I learned that if the environment is not good , that it is very difficult to succeed.”
Lampard he said he thought former players who became coaches sometimes received harsher criticism, but the 46-year-old was ready for the challenge.
“I’m motivated, I like to prove people wrong. I’ve done that a lot in my playing career. As a manager you know you have to prove someone wrong, whether it’s me or Pep. Guardiola”he said.
“You have to live in a world of attention when you’re a head coach, but if you don’t want that, don’t sign.”
Coventry he is 17th in England’s second division with four wins in 17 games. The first game of Lampard the face will be Cardiff City SATURDAY.
