Lamine Yamal made history when he started as a starter Barcelona visit to Porto. But stomach ache made him pull out faster.
Yamal was introduced by Xavi Hernandez as a starter when Barcelona visited the Estadio Do Dragao, Thursday (5/10/2023) early morning WIB, on Matchday 2 Liga Champions. It is a historical record, because he is now the youngest player to start a Champions League match.
Lamine Yamal was only 16 years and 83 days old when he competed last night. He overthrew the record belonging to Celestine Babayaro, who started in the Champions League at the age of 16 years 86 days in November 1994.

However, the historical story is colored by unlucky moments. Yamal suddenly disappeared in the 71st minute, apparently because his stomach was uncomfortable.
He could have played the full match. The indications are that Xavi even waited almost 10 minutes before finally bringing on Marcos Alonso as a substitute.
“Lamine Yamal is not fit. He is sick and has told me,” said Xavi The Sun.
“I took advantage of a break to tell him to quickly go to the toilet. But in the end people said he couldn’t return to the pitch.”
Barcelona won 1-0 in that match thanks to Ferran Torres’ goal at the end of the first half. The Blaugrana also ended the match with 10 men after Gavi was sent off in injury time.
