Barcelona and Spain footballer Lamine Yamal has graced the cover of France Football in the September issue of the prestigious publication. In his interview with the media, he shared that when he played football in the street, he learned not to be afraid of his bigger opponents.
“I always walked with my ball. I remember carrying it in a bag to school and kicking it until I got to class. When I was already at school I hid it in my backpack because the teacher wouldn’t let me leave it on the desk,” he revealed .
“Playing on the street removed my fear of playing against the older guys,” the youngster explained.
“At the end of the day I was always playing with my friends and the opponents were 20 years old and I was 11 or 12. So it took a lot of my fear away and made me enjoy and play against everyone. It all makes you you’re growing, even if you think you’re not, it always helps because when you see someone bigger than you, you know how to chase them and dribble,” the Barcelona winger added.
Yamal recalled his first day in the Barca dressing room and admitted: “I was uncomfortable going into the dressing room because Jordi Alba was there, Gerard Pique… Miralem Pjanic was there, but as I gained confidence, my nerves disappeared and I was able to thoroughly enjoyed my debut.”
“For me, the most important thing is to leave a legacy, to have your career. At the end of the day, when you’re compared to Leo Messi, it’s more important not to pay attention. It’s true that if you’re compared to the best player in the story, it means you do things well. It doesn’t bother me, of course, but I try to always be me,” concluded the Catalan player, reported “Top Sport”.
