Lamborghini, the turning point: the first 100% electric model is coming

Also there Lamborghini focuses on electrification. The first 100% electric model will arrive in the second half of the decade. Before that, the sports brand will be in charge of electrifying its range of cars. These, in summary, are the main steps in the presentation of the new “Cor Tauri Management” plan presented by the president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

They will be invested as a whole 1.5 billion euros in 4 years to start this transformation process that will lead the car manufacturer on the path of decarbonising its future models and the Sant’Agata Bolognese site. Although the focus will increasingly be on electrification, Lamboghini underlines that his focus will be on identifying technologies and solutions capable of always guaranteeing the best in performance and driving dynamics. This means that future electrified cars will continue to offer the same driving emotions as current models.

The builder’s new plan will be divided into three distinct phases. Until 2022 yes “will celebrate the internal combustion engine“. During this period internal combustion engines will be developed for special versions which”intend to pay tribute to the recent period of continued success for the Company“And in the course of 2021 there will be two innovations on the V12 front. From 2023 the real electrification process will begin. Indeed, Lamborghini will launch its own on the market first hybrid series model.

By the end of 2024, the entire range will be electrified. As previously mentioned, the brand will look for new technologies to ensure that its electrified cars are always “real Lamborghinis”. For this, a lot of work will be done on weight reduction, using carbon fiber, to compensate for the integration of the hybrid system.

And then in the second half of the decade the plan provides for the launch of the first electric. It will be a sportswoman and will join the current Urus, Aventador and Huracan. Unfortunately, no further details of this project were disclosed. Given that this car will arrive in some time, it is possible that it can take advantage of some technologies on which the Volkswagen Group is working including solid state batteries. Stephan Winkelmann comments:

Lamborghini’s electrification plan is a change of course made necessary by a radically changed context, in which we want to make our contribution by continuing to reduce the environmental impact through concrete projects. Our answer is a plan with an integrated approach, from the products to the Sant’Agata Bolognese site, which will lead us towards a more sustainable future, but still faithful to our DNA. Lamborghini has always been synonymous with the highest technological competence in the construction of engines with extraordinary performance: this will continue to be the absolute priority of our entire journey towards innovation. Today’s promise, supported by the largest investment plan in the history of the brand, is proof of our deep dedication not only to our customers, but also to our fans, our people and their families, to the territory in where we were born, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, Made in Italy.
