Things get tough when two sports legends face off. They both speak Italian, drink presso and refuel at the charger. But there can only be one winner.
There are some things, as the saying goes, “the train doesn’t go over”. Example? Viennese schnitzel only according to the original recipe. The original Adidas only has three stripes. The M3 only runs on gasoline. And the Lamborghini supersport has at least 10 cylinders. And it also runs on gasoline. Well, the last one seems to be over from now on. “Lambo” presented the model in which it sees its future, and as we say in the title of this article, it has neither 10 nor 6 cylinders, because it has no cylinder. And it runs on batteries. His name is Lanzador and we will go see him together.
On the other hand, it was probably to be expected. Lamborghini has been under the wing of the VW concern for some years now, which, as we all know, would “electrify even a steam locomotive”. From 1912. So if the question stands, whether the future of his super sports from Sant’Agata Bolognese will be petrol or electric, it’s probably a useless question in 2023. It will be electric, of course. And with nothing less at stake than the reputation of a cult super sports manufacturer with names such as Miura or Countach, it is clear that the designers and engineers will not want to leave anything to chance.
And when you look at the latest creation in our photos or in the attached video, you will probably conclude that they succeeded – at least in terms of appearance – in principle. Lanzador is especially special because as it stands straddling the Aventador-style “flat” supercar on the one hand, and an SUV in the spirit of the Ursus on the other. Obviously, with regard to the size of the wheels, their shoes and the overall ground clearance, it will not be a problem on a dirt road, but the shape of the body clearly refers to the legendary “pancakes”, started by the aforementioned Countach.
Which, by the way, can also be found in the design of the electric novelty. You ask where? Just look at the cut out of the fenders. And then compare it with the iconic supersport, which, I’m not afraid to write, rewrote history. And several times. Do you see that shape? It is quite obvious. And it’s a clear message from the designers to new clients: “This is a Lambo with everything.” It goes like a slingshot and as a bonus you can take it to the chat, and don’t worry about spoilers in the city. Just don’t look for a gas station, but a charger. Everything else is the same, take it easy”
And we could probably end with that. The future owner of Lanzador may not be interested in anything else. The car oozes confidence, but it’s not unnecessarily masculine and testosteroney, nor too much “metrosexual” and refined. It seems to me that it is exactly in between. At the cafe or at the theater it will get out just as well as with two wheels on a rear carrier under a mountain hut in the Dolomites. Which, come to think of it, is quite an achievement. It’s different than a premium SUV, but it’s all the more attractive.
But we could say something a little more. The vast majority of us will only read about Lanzador anyway, so let us at least have some information: The novelty is equipped with two electric motors, one for each axle, for efficient transmission of power to all four wheels. With a power exceeding 1000 kW. Or one megawatt. Weird, reading this in the car. I thought that I would only hear megawatt in the news in connection with the tender for Temelín. And not with the Italian sports car. Times are obviously changing.
Let’s move on: The new version of the driving dynamics control system, Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI), is supposed to be a game changer for all other Lamborghini cars. It offers drivers unprecedented freedom of customization and allows them to tune active control systems so, to best suit their driving needs. Which is something that is apparently easier to do with an electric and “all-digital” car than with a car built on mechanical foundations. We understand.
The cockpit of the prototype follows the “Feel like a pilot” philosophy. The ergonomic environment embraces the driver and passengers, and the thin and light control panel allows them to actively adjust the behavior of the car while driving. Sustainable materials used in the interior such as merino wool and regenerated carbon, demonstrate the company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact without sacrificing the luxury and comfort typical of a Lamborghini vehicle. Some invisible plastic elements, such as the foam in the sports seats, are made from 3D printed recycled fibers.
