Lamborghini crash: Bob Ultee refused alcohol test out of ‘fear of blood’

Bob Ultee, the entrepreneur who was involved in a collision with his Lamborghini on the A16 on Sunday, refused to do an alcohol test after the accident. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will impose a sentence on him for this, according to the police. Ultee says he knows nothing about a punishment and firmly denies the course of events: “This is libel and slander by the police.”

In the accident, Ultee hit a Peugeot 107 with his car. Ultee previously told Omroep Brabant that the accident was not much: “It was just a common collision, because it is a Lamborghini, everyone makes a thing of it.”

Drinking in the game?
A relative of the driver of the Peugeot informs Omroep Brabant that Ultee had been drinking during the accident. She calls his statements “painful and disrespectful.” In particular, the fact that Ultee described the accident as ‘ just a kiss‘, stabs her.

The police report that it is not possible to determine whether Ultee had been drinking, because the breathalyzer on the spot failed several times. Ultee refused a blood test at the hospital. He will be fined for this. The Public Prosecution Service may also impose more sanctions.

The accident is no longer under investigation and is a matter for the insurance company.

‘Typical Netherlands’
Ultee vehemently denies the police story. “This is a bizarre story, libel and slander from the police.” The entrepreneur indicates that the breathalyzer did not work, because he has a tear in his sternum due to a previous skiing accident, which prevents him from blowing hard.

He was then taken to hospital for a blood test, which he refused because he says he is afraid of blood. “I dare everything in my life, except when there is blood involved. That is a kind of trauma.”

Ultee would then have offered to try another breathalyzer. According to him, this was no longer necessary: ”The officer said ‘never mind, it’s okay’ and I could go. I hadn’t been drinking either because I never drink.”

He is surprised that the Public Prosecution Service wants to impose sanctions on him. “I have heard nothing and have several witnesses who confirm that I wanted to try another breathalyzer. It is typical of the Netherlands, a simple accident becomes a huge thing because a Lamborghini is involved.”

Ultee says he has had up to 6,000 comments after the news. “Even Chinese media have written about it.” The Lamborghini is now at a garage: “That is still good news, the damage has probably been repaired for 10 to 20 thousand euros.”

Hand in driver’s license
What about refusing an alcohol test? That is punishable to begin with, cooperation is mandatory, both with the breath test and the blood test. If the breath test is refused, a fine of 240 euros applies, if the blood test is also refused, a fine of 1000 euros can follow and you are not allowed to drive for 9 months. It is not yet clear what exactly the Public Prosecution Service will determine in this case.
