Lamborghini celebrates milestone for far from exclusive Aventador

Feast for Lamborghini. Yesterday the 10,000th Aventador rolled off the production line in Sant’Agata Bolognese. A lucky buyer from Thailand can expect the exact model to arrive soon.

It has been nine years since Lamborghini presented the impressive Aventador. To be precise, it was then an LP 700-4, the version with which the V12 hypercar debuted. During those nine years many variants of the model appeared, including a J, S, and SVJ. Yesterday the 10,000th copy rolled off the line in Sant’Agata Bolognese. It was an SVJ Roadster, made in Grigio Acheso. The car will soon find its way to Thailand, where the owner is waiting for it.

Exclusive

Although it sounds like the Lamborghini Aventador with 10,000 copies is far from exclusive, a number of Lambos have already passed that number with ease. Of the Manage, which only appeared on the market in 2017, Lamborghini already built 10,000 of them last June.

Lamborghini’s V10 models were also popular in recent decades. The Gallardo, which was built from 2003 to 2014, appeared in an edition of 14,022 pieces. Its successor, the Huracán, has already rolled off the Italian production line more than 15,000 times.

Hybrid-V12

Those are numbers that the Aventador will probably just not reach. After all, Lamborghini is already working on a new model for the illustrious V12 bloodline, which will replace the Aventador. The model was originally planned for this year, but the release has been delayed. The hypercar will probably see the light of day in 2024. We also already know that the naturally aspirated V12 in that car gets help from an electric motor. The addition of turbos is not planned.

Lamborghini Sian Roadster
The Lamborghini Sián will be released soon and is basically an Aventador with a V12, but is also assisted by a hybrid system.

This happily keeps Lamborghini’s illustrious V12 bloodline alive. It started in 1966 with the arrival of the stunning Miura, which radically changed the world of sports cars. In 1974 Lamborghini presented the legendary and insane Countach, drawn by Bertone’s Marcello Gandini. That car was produced for no less than 15 years, until it was the turn of the Diablo in 1990.

Murcièlago

A special model, because it was built at a time when Chrysler and later Audi were the owners of Lamborghini. In addition, it was the first Lambo-V12 to appear on the market as a Roadster. The Murcièlago followed in 2003, fully built under the supervision of Audi and designed by the Belgian Luc Donckerwolke, who recently left Hyundai. Named after a bull who survived 24 stab wounds in combat (although that story is questioned by many), the beautiful sports coupé became the car of this bloodline with the shortest life. After seven years, Lamborghini already pulled the plug from the car, which made way for the Aventador in 2011.

Lamborghini Murcielago

However, all those V12 models are much more exclusive than the Aventador. That is of course not so surprising given the current volumes and demand for exclusive cars, but we have listed the total production numbers (including all variants that have appeared of each model) for you:

  • Miura: 741 stuks
  • Countach: 1,983 pcs
  • Diablo: 2,884 pieces
  • Murcièlago: 4,099 pieces
  • Aventador: 10,000 pieces

Four-door GT

Incidentally, Lamborghini naturally produced more cars with a V12, but those were mainly four-seater with an engine in the nose and are therefore not predecessors of the Aventador. Feruccio Lamborghini started its car brand with classic GTs, such as the 350GT, Espada and Jarama, but cars with such a configuration unfortunately already disappeared from the manufacturer’s range in the last century. Years ago it presented a successor to those cars in the form of the Estoque Concept, but that model has not appeared to date. A four-door sports coupé with room for four passengers may appear in 2025, with electric drive.

Lamborghini Espada
The Lamborghi Espada was certainly practical!
