Today, Wednesday, February 1, the Lambayeque Regional Health Management (Geresa) will begin the vaccination campaign for adults over 60 years of age after the arrival of 81,000 doses of the bivalent vaccine against covid-19 in this region.
Thus, Geresa Lambayeque scheduled vaccination through fixed points in public spaces and in the more than 180 health establishments of the first level of care in this northern region.
The regional immunization coordinator, José Antonio Enriquez Salazar, reported that, with this first batch, it will be possible to protect a part of the population of older adults who have already spent two months after the application of their third or fourth dose.
There are 236,000 people over the age of 60 who will be progressively vaccinated, as vaccines arrive in the region.
“Let us remember that the bivalent vaccine against covid-19 is the 2023 booster in a single dose, it protects both the Wuhan virus strain and the Omicron variant. This vaccine will allow us to continue dealing with the sublineages of this variant that continues to appear around the world”, declared Enriquez Salazar.
The vaccination campaign is scheduled from today, Wednesday, February 1, in the more than 180 health establishments of the first level of care, which the Lambayeque region has, in addition, more than 15 fixed vaccination points will be enabled in public spaces for bring the biological closer to the population.
“We are aware that the elderly, due to their age and the presence of some comorbidity, are the most vulnerable in the presence of multiple sublineages of the virus. Like our health personnel, it is important that we protect them all,” added the specialist.
With this first batch of vaccines, progress will be made with a part of the target population through health centers and posts, in addition to the fixed points installed. With the arrival of more vaccines, the authorization of “vaccinating” and house-to-house monitoring of older adults is being coordinated.
