Lambaréné, May 13, 2023 (AGP) – The Expanded Vaccination Program (EPI) and the Institute of Epidemiology and the Fight Against Endemics (IELE), in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UNICEF, organized from May 8 to 12 in Lambaréné, the provincial capital of Moyen-Ogooué, a training workshop for regional management teams on vaccination and epidemiological surveillance.

Several recommendations were made, including the strengthening of activities around the vaccination of measles, rubella and neonatal tetanus.

National and international experts have, during 5 days of workshop, made the autopsy on the activities and the national, regional, as well as departmental system, on vaccination and epidemiological surveillance.

The panelists recommend building the capacities of management teams; but also, the capacity of departmental health regions, the strengthening of surveillance activities, with regard to acute flaccid paralysis from poliomyelitis, and finally, the strengthening of activities around measles, rubella and neonatal tetanus for women speakers etc

During this workshop, the panelists were treated to a new tool, called companion ODK. This is an interesting innovation to facilitate the digitization of data collection in the field. Its daily use not only saves time, but above all makes it possible to monitor, even remotely, the implementation of the activity at the national level.

‘’This innovation will allow us to have the promptness and completeness of vaccination data at the national level.said Avomo Obame Noëlle Ep Ella Obounou, director of the EPI.

This rich and varied training aimed to contribute to strengthening the knowledge of actors in the regions and health departments on the surveillance of PAF and other diseases targeted by the EPI, introduced to integrated active surveillance (IAS).

It should be remembered that the integrated active surveillance is a strategy that aims to take advantage of the experience acquired in the surveillance activities of the PAF. It is a tool that has already been implemented in some countries to conduct active research for other vaccine-preventable diseases.
