His engagement in the Serbian club Crvena Zvezda Belgrade is a thing of the past. Slovak representative Erik Jirka set out on a new adventure, but for a competition he already knows well. Shortly before the start of the new season, the offspring of Spartak Trnava agreed on a transfer with the second-league Spanish club. Real Oviedo.

“I chose Oviedo because it has a great history. The club is very well known and my compatriot Peter Dubovský also played here. It also weighed on my decision. That’s why I chose Oviedo, “ declared a 23-year-old Slovak who would now like to follow up on the great legacy left in Real by his legendary predecessor.

“It’s a great honor and, of course, a challenge for me. Even in Oviedo, everyone knows well what Peter Dubovský has been able to do here. I would definitely like to follow in his footsteps. “ Jirka wished.

He wants to help get Oviedo back among the elite

The last time Oviedo was part of the highest Spanish competition was in the period when Dubovský defended its colors. The 2000/2001 season was the last for Oviedo among the Spanish elite for many years. And although the team has not been able to really talk to the fight to return to LaLiga in recent years, Jirka believes that it could work out now.

“Oviedo plays very fast football. They have strong breaks and are very uncomfortable in attack. I think I could help them with my speed, ferocity and also straightforwardness towards the gate, “ Jirka described his football strengths at a press conference and continued: “My plan is to get to LaLiga with Real Oviedo. I think that is also the goal of the whole club. We will try to do that. “

He no longer wanted to change clubs and go to guest appearances

Since moving to the Red Star in Belgrade in 2018, he has replaced up to three clubs. He was a guest in the Serbian Town Hall of Nis, the Polish Górnik Zabrze and the Spanish CD Mirandés. Jirka finally wanted to change that.

“It’s definitely not good for a player to keep going to guests. That’s why I wanted to sign a contract with a good club, which I did. I became an Oviedo player, for which I am very grateful. I will definitely try to prove that I really belong here, “ declared the Slovak representative, who also presented himself with the “falcons” at EURO 2020, but did not intervene in any of the three matches.
