LaLiga has concluded the formation of 25 Brazilian youth soccer coaches in the first edition of the Qualify the Coach program that took place in April in the Rio de Janeiro country. This training is part of the LaLiga Football Schools project, launched in Brazil in 2022 by Bright Academy. A team of LaLiga coaches traveled to Brazil to participate in different theoretical and practical sessions where the coaches were trained in the training concepts of the LaLiga Methodology. This proprietary Methodology brings together many of the elements that have placed its clubs’ youth academies among the best in the world.
The programming included five content modules, two theoretical-practical training sessions and 3 field training sessions. In addition, there was the participation of two former LaLiga players and ambassadors of the project, Zé Roberto and César Sampaio. The objective of the course? Prepare Brazilian coaches for the LaLiga Football Schools Brazil program.
LaLiga Football Schools Brazil, which started in 2022 in the country, is a project to integrate football in schools and educational centers as a tool for the comprehensive development and training of boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 17. In Brazil it already has six offices, distributed among the regions of Sao Paulo, Recife and Aracaju, and it is growing. At this moment, more than 550 players train in the educational centers integrated into the program.
LaLiga Football Schools is one of the key projects under the LaLiga Grassroots umbrella, the entity’s initiative to promote global grassroots football. It is developed with agreements with educational centers at the local level. The affiliated centers keep football well within the academic curriculum, or as an extracurricular activity, where they train following the guidelines of LaLiga, which supervises the project from its headquarters in Madrid through the Technical Director at the destination. In addition to Brazil, LaLiga Football Schools is present in Hong Kong, Vietnam and India, the first country to host the project and where, since its opening in 2018, more than 17,000 young footballers have already been trained.
“At LaLiga we have trained more than 22,000 local coaches in the LaLiga Methodology in different countries. Programs such as Train-The-Trainers or LaLiga Formation Methodology in countries like the US or India have laid the foundations to continue perfecting this type of training, including various educational experiences in Spain, in which clubs participate and collaborate, for professionals from outside our borders. We believe that both the selection and the training of the coaches is the basis on which we build the projects, which is why we attach great importance to it”, he affirms. Juan Florit, responsible for LaLiga Grassroots’ technical and sports side.
“The central idea of LaLiga Football Schools is the comprehensive development of boys and girls, using football as an educational tool; boost the level of local coaches, thanks to the formations that are given from LaLiga; and promote interest in Spanish football. Brazil is a country where soccer is very strong, so there are many synergies and areas of collaboration that will make the project grow even more. In fact, the idea is to open four more offices in the short term,” he says. Francisco Xavier Hernandez, Head of International Development at LaLiga Grassroots.
