The Lakers proved to be one of the favorite opponents earlier this season. The Mutzen took seven points from the first three games. But this time Bern didn’t do much against Rapperswil-Jona either. Despite a promising start, SCB suffered another home defeat.
Zack Mitchell and Yannick Brüschweiler put the Lakers ahead twice. In between, defender Beat Gerber equalized with his first goal of the season to make it 1-1. In the last 37 minutes of the game, Bern ran unsuccessfully after the deficit.
It only got turbulent again in the final phase. SCB took goalie Daniel Manzato off the ice for the first time 83 seconds before the end. The Bernese scored through Philip Varone to make it 2-3, but only when Manzato was back in front of his goal. Before and after, the Lakers scored twice into the empty goal through Igor Jelovac (3:1) and Rajan Sataric (4:2).
The Lakers cannot be pushed out of the top six in the remaining rounds after this success. You have the quarterfinals for sure. In the last seven rounds, Bern only celebrated measly victories against Ajoie and Langnau. Nevertheless, the reserve for Ambri-Piotta, who is classified below the line, is still nine points (in a multiple game).
