Lakers Assistant Coach Lionel Hollins is not allowed to go to Orlando due to health risks

The Los Angeles Lakers have to do without Assistant Coach Lionel Hollins in Orlando. The former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies was classified as a risk by the NBA doctors.

The 66-year-old accepted the decision, according to Chris Haynes from Yahoo. At the same time, it was also stressed that the decision had nothing to do with Hollins’ age.

In addition to Hollins, Pelicans assistant Jeff Bzdelik will not travel to Orlando, as his advisor Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) revealed. It was not communicated whether its cancellation was related to health. However, Bzdelik is said to have received a check from the Pelicans doctors before the announcement.

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, who is also the president of the coaching union, said on Wednesday that age should not be a reason for exclusion whether a coach should travel to Orlando or not.

Hollins has been an assistant to head coach Frank Vogel since summer 2019. In addition to his work in Memphis, the 66-year-old also coached Brooklyn Nets between 2014 and 2016.
