Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Toba Lake in North Sumatra was chosen as the most amazing lake in the world by Media Australia.
Lake Toba is formed from an ancient volcanic crater that has filled with water from time to time. This crater was created about 75,000 years ago, and the Toba eruption is believed to be the largest eruption in 25 million years that triggered global climate change. Scientists believe the eruption nearly wiped out humanity.
There are several factors that can make a lake extraordinary such as its size, environment, altitude, depth, or the wildlife that breeds there.
In addition to Lake Toba, there are nine other lakes that are amazing on Earth Traveller.
Caspian Sea
Bordered by Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea is the largest lake in the world. In fact, it is so large that the ship takes 17 hours to cross.
With a surface area of about 370 thousand square kilometers, this lake is a lake that has characteristics like the sea, namely salty water and very wide, located above the oceanic crust, and surrounded by sandy land as well as the coast.
The Caspian Sea is also too big to be beautiful although the mountains in the south are more dramatic than the plains in the north. The most dynamic city on the Caspian Sea is Baku in Azerbaijan.
Lake Baikal
The Caspian Sea may be the largest lake by volume and surface area, but Lake Baikal is the deepest.
This long and thin lake is also the largest freshwater lake in the world. Formed in a tectonic rift, Baikal is 636 kilometers long, and has mountains to the west, north, and northeast.
Eyes of the Salado
Ojos del Salado is the highest active volcano in the world and the second highest mountain in South America. In a crater near the summit is a permanent lake that is only about 100 meters in diameter.
This lake is called special because it is above the height. Ojos del Salado is located at an altitude of 6390 meters above sea level. And crowned as the highest lake on earth.
Lake Titicaa
This lake in Peru is not as high as Lake Ojos del Salado, but is still in the category of the highest large lake in the world. This lake is located at an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level.
There is plenty of wildlife, including unique birds and frogs. But tourism on Lake Titicaca tends to be concentrated on the Inca sites around the lake’s shores plus the incredible artificial islands made of reeds that grow around the lake.
