Lake Neuchâtel: A septuagenarian drowned in Grandson

A swimming accident occurred Friday afternoon off a beach in the Vaud village of Grandson.

A 77-year-old man was the victim of a swimming accident Friday afternoon off the beach of Merveilleuse in Grandson (VD). He died at the scene.

At around 3 p.m., the Swiss inhabitant of the region was swimming with a foam fry which, at one point, escaped him. In distress, he then found himself unconscious on the surface of the water, the cantonal police communicated on Saturday.

The victim was rescued by other people nearby. They brought him back to the shore and gave him a heart massage. Despite the attempt at resuscitation, the swimmer died on the spot.
