LAKE MARY —
Many Central Florida high school football fans were a little disappointed when they saw that Lake Mary was inactive on the Week 2 schedule last Friday. After the Rams and their second-year quarterback phenom Noah Grubbs threw eight touchdown passes in a 76-60 Week 1 shootout with Dr. Phillips, everyone wanted to see what was next.
You will be able to see it this week, when the Rams host their rival Oviedo. Grubbs and his arsenal of receivers: seniors Caden Harshbarger, Carson Hinshaw, Logan Cook; and junior Carson Friedman will look to air it out again.
Grubbs, a second-year quarterback, ticks all the boxes. He is 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds. He is precise and has a big arm. Against Dr. Phillips, Grubbs passed for 528 yards on 25 of 37 passes (68%). The quarterback, however, simply downplays the performance. He wasn’t necessarily what he expected to do in his first game of the season, but he said that’s what happens when you follow the game plan and execute it.
“It’s just a team execution and if we execute like that all season, we should be good all season,” Grubbs said. “They went one after the other and then it was like the next play.”
Grubbs makes the most of his receivers. Everyone has known them for a long time and Grubbs is happy to have several patterns to choose from during game situations.

“It is fantastic to be able to choose between one option and another. There’s not one guy who’s better than the other, so that’s good,” Grubbs said. “It makes the game easier and slower and allows me to read defenses better.”
The eight touchdown passes certainly caught Grubbs’ attention. A few days after that first game, Pittsburgh was on the horn with a scholarship offer from coach Tim Salem, the recruiter for the Central Florida Panthers area who used to coach at UCF. Pitt’s offer has just been added to their list, which now stands at 12. Schools like UCF, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, Duke and Penn State are also on board.
Receivers love their sophomore gunslinger.
“Obviously, not many teams in high school have a quarterback who can express it like we do,” Harshbarger said, “so our scheme definitely shifts from maybe not running as much to making farther shots throughout the game.” field, which is unbelievable.” for us as a receiving company”.

He was certainly a blast for pass catchers in that first game.
“It was incredible. Obviously, we broke a lot of records, but we have to prove ourselves in the next few games,” Harshbarger said.
Harshbarger led Lake Mary in receiving last season with 44 receptions for 691 yards and 6 touchdowns. Hinshaw had 26 catches for 254 yards and 4 touchdowns, and Cook added 19 receptions for 303 yards and two scores.
“It’s great. He is amazing. We’ve basically known each other for several years. I’ve grown up with them my whole life,” Hinshaw said. “Noah, I’ve known him since he was 4 years old, so we’ve always been talking. [the ball] in the neighborhood and we all live nearby.
“We’ve created this link that makes it quite easy now in the field and the results are showing.”
Cook spent time trading plays with Grubbs at quarterback last season, but he’s happy to turn the ball over to his great quarterback and focus on running his pass routes and catching balls.
“Is awesome. It’s fantastic for Noah to be able to take over and it will be fantastic,” Cook said. “We want the best for Lake Mary and it’s nice to know we’re going to get a great pass no matter what the situation is.”
They’re not the biggest guys in the world: Harshbarger, 6-foot-170; Hinshaw 5-10, 170; Cook 6-1, 175; and Friedman 5-10, 140, but receivers know how…
