Lake Dallas Mayor Michael Barnhart announced his resignation at the Thursday night city council meeting, adding the position to other key city roles vacated in recent months.
On Friday afternoon, Mike Wilson, Interim City Manager of Lake Dallas, reached Barnhart’s resignation. The next steps are still ongoing, Wilson said, and he declined to comment on whether this could include an election for a new mayor.
“The mayor announced his resignation with immediate effect at the council meeting last night,” said Wilson. “I know there are some options, but we had to research which direction to go. We will do this as a priority and consult with the law to make sure it complies with city law.”
Barnhart’s term of office expired in May 2022. Other positions in the city have also been vacated in recent months, including the city administrator and the chief of police. Former city administrator John Cabrales was replaced by the provisional Wilson, while Police Chief Daniel Carolla retired from his position.
Barnhart could not be reached for comment on Friday.
