Lake Constance district: still tested positive for Corona? what you need to know

Finally summer like before Corona, concerts and travel: In June the annoying pandemic seems to be far away. However, a look at the corona numbers in the Lake Constance district shows that the virus is still there. According to the State Health Office, more than 100 people in the region are infected every day. What rules apply to them? Here is an overview.

How do I follow up one positive self test?

First of all, one should remain calm. For example, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs emphasizes in a leaflet: “Sometimes self-tests also show false positive results.” Those affected should therefore have a free rapid antigen test carried out by trained people as soon as possible. There are still numerous stations for testing in the region.

What to do if the rapid test is positive?

If a quick test is positive, that means: off home. There is a legal quarantine requirement of at least five days from the moment the sample was taken. A PCR test taken later does not extend the period. A negative rapid test can end the isolation after five days. The quarantine lasts a maximum of ten days.

Demonstrate PCR-Tests Infections actually start earlier?

Anyone who has had contact with infected people, for example within the family, but is still negative themselves, might want to play it safe quickly. Numerous federal and state websites emphasize that PCR tests react more sensitively to viral loads than rapid tests. But how many days earlier do they react?

The Robert Koch Institute writes on request that a general statement is not possible. Rather, it depends on the individual course of the disease and the care taken with the antigen test – and can vary accordingly. One thing is clear: PCR tests cost around 70 euros and have to be paid out of pocket if there is no positive rapid test.

Do I have to take sick leave?

Not necessarily. Anyone who has tested positive must isolate themselves. But only those who cannot do their job also need a sick note from the doctor. According to the Ministry of Health, the inability to work must be certified by a doctor from the third calendar day. The many affected people will probably not be spared a trip to the doctor, because it is no longer possible to take sick leave over the phone. The corresponding special rule was limited to the end of May. Alternatively, video consultations are still possible – but not every doctor offers them.

What are the penalties if I ignore infection control rules?

According to the Infection Protection Act, Section 73, this can get really expensive. Depending on the specific offence, fines of up to 2500 euros can be incurred, in some cases even up to 25,000 euros.

How dangerous is the current corona variant?

The currently predominant omicron variant is considered to be very contagious, but has a gentler course than previous types of the virus. This was also recently confirmed by Oliver Schäfer, head of the Lake Constance district health department, to the SÜDKURIER: Looking at the past few months, he spoke of “more infections with a lower degree of severity”. However, he also warned with a view to the future: “Further development depends to a large extent on the virus mutations that are still to come and the severity of the disease progression that they trigger.” Caution is therefore still required.
