Lake cliffs in Brazil collapsed on a tourist boat. Rescue teams searched for two people still missing as the death toll rose to eight from a cliff that collapsed on a tourist boat.

“We have eight confirmed dead and we still need to find the two missing victims,” ​​he said.

On Saturday (8/1), panicked tourists watched from another boat as large shards of rock broke off a cliff and fell onto four boats on Lake Furnas. More than 30 people were injured, including nine who had to be hospitalized, authorities said.

Tourists flock to see the cliffs, caves and waterfalls that surround the green waters of Lake Furnas, formed by the hydroelectric dam of the same name. The dramatic video shared on social networks captures the moment the cliff collapses.

One video shows minutes before the incident, with several people warning that rocks were falling and shouting at other boat passengers to stay away from the rock face.

President Jair Bolsonaro retweeted some of these videos on his Twitter account, and reported that “as soon as the unfortunate disaster occurred, the Brazilian Navy moved to the scene to rescue the victims and transport the injured.”

A dive team had to stop its search overnight for safety reasons, but other rescuers continued to work. The divers continued their search on Sunday (9/1).
