The position of the patroness of the festival, L. Vaikule, on the war in Ukraine is even known.
“According to the opinion of the visionary of the said festival – Laima Vaikule, it would not be ethical to hold a festival (festival in translation means – “holidays”) at a time when war and tragedies are taking place nearby,” the organizers explain and add: “Also, due to current political considerations, it is impossible to ensure the entry of many artists and staff involved in the festival, including the expected audience, into Latvia from countries involved in hostilities.”
The festival is moved to July 20-30, 2023.
“We will be grateful if you prove your solidarity and loyalty and agree to move the festival to a more suitable time for its implementation (this year, too, you will not demand the return of the money paid for the entrance tickets to the festival now), thus allowing the opportunity to fully ensure the quality implementation of the festival next year,” the festival organizers ask .
It is known that Laima Vaikule continues to stay in the USA. The last public comment from the artist was posted on her Instagram account on April 27, when she commented Simonyana’s statements about Maxim Galkin’s sexual orientation.
