Vice President Lai Qingde today instructed former Culture Minister Zheng Lijun to complete the registration for the Democratic Progressive Party chairman election; Zheng Lijun issued a statement on his behalf, hoping to complete the reorganization to help stabilize the political situation, conduct in-depth reviews regain the people’s trust, and recruit talents to lead innovation and progress 4 tasks including protecting Taiwan, promoting democracy, peace and prosperity.
President Lai Qingde recently announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Democratic Progressive Party. However, due to the diagnosis, he is still in the period of independent health management. He asked Zheng Lijun to register as party chairman at the party headquarters of the DPP at 11:00 formally in cash of NT $1.5 million.
Zheng Lijun conveyed Lai Qingde’s thoughts on running for election. Lai Qingde said that he had joined party members and comrades in politics for more than 20 years and always had a firm sense of mission towards the townspeople and comrades in the party. In the nine-to-one election, the DPP suffered setbacks. In this moment of reorganization, self-reflection and restart, as a member of the DPP, I have the responsibility to courageously take responsibility and rebuild morale to face the challenges of the future together, this is an inescapable responsibility, which is why I have decided to run for president of the match.
Lai Qingde proposed to complete four tasks,
1. Regroup and help stabilize the political situation: As the ruling party, it must adjust its pace as soon as possible and start over. It must become the driving force for Taiwan to keep moving forward. The DPP will propose future development policies and vision concepts for the next stage as the driving force for the people of the country.
2. Thorough review to win the people’s trust: The DPP will examine with an open mind, uphold the spirit of democracy and openness, pursue pluralistic values, broaden the connection between the party and society, and engage in dialogue with the younger generation, so that the policies it promotes are closer to people’s needs and realize justice. Let people’s lives get more support and expand people’s trust.
3. Recruit talent to drive innovation and progress: The DPP will use a fair mechanism to allow more talented people to contribute to Taiwan. Join the party to become a more open, progressive and powerful political party. In response to various challenges in Taiwan’s future, we will work together with the political talents of central and local governments in different fields to unite and work hard for Taiwan.
4. Protect Taiwan and promote democracy, peace and prosperity: Democracy and prosperity are important national security strategies of Taiwan. Currently, Taiwan is facing the expansion of authoritarianism in the region and the revitalization of the people’s livelihood economy after the epidemic. There is also a long-term governance project for net zero transformation, as the ruling party, the DPP will unite and cooperate with the ruling team to gather the maximum strength of society, so that the ruling can maximize the synergy, jointly enhance Taiwan’s resilience and strength, and strive to deepen Taiwan’s democracy, maintain regional peace, and promote national prosperity with progress.
