Ladybug. Ban on trading on Sundays, Biedronka is testing the expansion of cooperation with Poczta Polska

Biedronka has started tests of collecting parcels directly in stores in “individual locations”. This is the effect of expanding the cooperation of Poczta Polska with the company Jeronimo Martins Polska, which owns the network. For this reason, Biedronka stores in selected locations will be open on Sunday.

For over 2 years, customers of Poczta Polska have been able to collect parcels from parcel machines located in Biedronka stores.

“Recognizing the growing popularity of parcel collection at points and vending machines, the Company, together with Jeronimo Martins Polska SA, decided to extend the existing cooperation in a test manner. As a result, parcel collection will be possible directly in Biedronka stores during everyday shopping,” Poczta Polska informed on Friday. The pilot is carried out with the participation of the technological partner PointPack.

We decided to ask the representatives of the Biedronka network about extending cooperation with Poczta Polska.

Biedronka stores open on Sunday?

“We listen carefully to the needs of our customers who expect the possibility of implementing their purchase and service plans in one place. We have started testing the new service only in individual locations out of over 3,000 stores in our network” – the press office of the Biedronka chain informed in the reply sent to us.

“Launching the test is a test of new business opportunities in line with the current legal order. We will make decisions on the possible development and final shape of this service after analyzing the results of the pilot” – indicated the representatives of Biedronka.

At the end of May 2021 Kaufland has introduced postal services in all stores, also in hypermarkets. For now, the chain has not decided to open its branches on Sundays, but it is considering this option.

Planned changes to the trade ban

Sunday, July 11, is a trade ban, so only stores with owners behind the counter can be open. However, the act provides for a catalog of 32 exemptions. The prohibition does not apply, among others in post offices, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, flower shops, newspaper shops or coffee shops.

It is possible, however, that there will be changes in the regulations soon. Janusz Śniadek from Law and Justice, who piloted the work on the changes, in an interview with “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” announced that the draft amendment to the law would be submitted to the Sejm at the beginning of July. So far, the draft has not been published on the parliamentary website.

The information from the journal shows that the shop will be able to operate on non-trading Sundays as a post office, provided that this type of activity is dominant for it. The newspaper announced plans to introduce a requirement that in the month preceding the inspection by the National Labor Inspectorate, total revenues from activities described as “predominant” should amount to over 50 percent.

It is also planned to introduce for entities willing to take advantage of the exemption the requirement to keep records of revenues with a division into activities entitling to the exemption and other.
