The 24-year-old singer took home eight of the prestigious awards, including video of the year
Lady Gaga won the MTV Video Music Awards, the BBC reported.
The 24-year-old singer took home eight of the prestigious awards, including video of the year. Most of the statuettes are for the music video for her song “Bad Romance”. At the end of the night, the flamboyant performer couldn’t hold back her tears as she accepted her most prestigious award from Cher. “I never thought I’d be asking Cher to hold my meat bag,” declared a tearful Gaga, who took the stage in a costume that looked like it was made of bacon. As promised, the singer also revealed the name of her new album, which will be called “Born This Way” and performed part of the title track. During the course of the show, Gaga also turned the ceremony into a copper show of her own, after appearing in several outfits.
The eight awards put Lady Gaga on par with “A-ha”, who won the same in 1986. However, the most statuettes in one night can be boasted by Peter Gabriel, who took home 10 trophies a year later.
This year’s ceremony in Los Angeles was opened by rapper Eminem, who collected the awards for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Male Video.
Country singer Taylor Swift performed a new song for Kanye West, who last year stormed the stage and interrupted her acceptance speech for one of the awards.
