It is probably the TV event of this month of May (even of the year!). Seventeen years after the end of their cult series, the actors of « Friends » have finally met, as part of a special program offered Thursday, May 27 on the HBO Max platform, in the United States… and soon to be broadcast on TF1.
After countless rumors and years of waiting, this exceptional family reunion has finally taken place, much to the delight of fans of Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Ross and Joey. Which were all present in the mythical sets of the sitcom (Monica’s apartment, the Central Perk, the fountain of the credits …) to lend themselves to some confidences and to remember the most beautiful moments of this adventure which will have lasted ten seasons and which will have marked a whole generation.
As it was a reunion and not a new episode in “revival” mode, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc did indeed appear in their own role and not that of their character. But the group still had fun taking over a few anthology sketches. Example with the famous song of Phoebe, « Smelly cat » (or “Tu pues le chat” in French), performed for the first time in the second season of the show and transformed into a running gag over the episodes. On the brown sofa at Central Perk, Lisa Kudrow took over her “hit” on guitar, joined by a guest star of choice… Lady Gaga, wearing a very 90s outfit (very Phoebe, what)!

Born in 1986 and having spent her childhood in New York, the interpreter of “Rain on me” is a child of “Friends”. This little apparition was therefore quite justified. “We went through a few names, and we agreed that Gaga, if we could have her, would be the ultimate choice, because she feels close to Phoebe in so many ways. It was a very beautiful moment ”, said Ben Winston, director and producer of the show, in an interview for Variety.
After having remarkably sung the inevitable “Smelly cat” in the company of Lisa Kudrow and a gospel choir, the singer thanked the actress for having played the character. ” different “ from the series, the girl who was “Really herself”.
Note that this was not the first time that Lisa Kudrow took over her song with a celebrity. In 2015, Taylor Swift invited her on her “1989” tour to share a duet on stage.
A host of guests
Throughout this special program, many guests have followed one another to show their affection to the six “Friends”. Among them, the ex-footballer David Beckham, the actor of “Game of Thrones” Kit Harrington, as well as Cara Delevigne and Cindy Crawford, who replayed the models for a parade with the outstanding costumes of the series, accompanied by the singer.
