“Ladies Flag Team of AFC Vienna Vikings: Mixed Results in FLL Liga First Matchday”

The Ladies Flag Team of the AFC Vienna Vikings was able to win the first matchday of the FLL Liga and had to admit defeat in two duels against the Vienna Constables and the Domzale Tigers. Due to injury-related absences, the team traveled with only seven players.

In the first game against the “hosts” Tirol Adler, the ladies were able to win 19:13 in a game that was dominated by the defenses. The “tipping point” of the game was an interception on her own goal line by #8 Cilia Nagel, who ran the ball into the opponent’s end zone.

Then it was against the Vienna Constables – reigning state champions 2022. Here the team of head coach Martina Beisteiner was able to keep up well in places. In the end the ladies had to admit defeat with 28:40.

In the last game against the Domzale Tigers, only six of the seven players who had traveled were still able to play. After some initial difficulties, the team found their way into the game late in the first half, but that wasn’t enough for anything countable. The ladies finally lost their last game with 0:34.

Martina Beisteiner comments on the match day as follows: “We knew that the match day would be very difficult for us. We grew closer as a team and never gave up. The win against Tirol wasn’t easy, but it was important.”

The Ladies Flag Team is now on an extended break until the next game day, giving the injured players time (get well soon everyone) to get fit again. At the next FLL game day on 21.5. the ladies have a byeweek, which means the next game day is on July 1st. in Vienna (1160).
