Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) Bandung Raya mentions five times or shopping centers are in danger of being sold because there are no visitors since the policy was implemented PPKM. One of them, namely Ujung Berung Town Square Mall (Ubertos) whose sales plan had gone viral on social media.
“If it is recorded, there are several, so they live reluctantly, they don’t want to die. There are approximately five malls (which are willing to be sold), this is what the government needs to start thinking about,” said Head of APPBI Bandung Raya Handianto Lie as quoted from Between, Tuesday (24/8).
However, he did not specify the other four malls that were in danger of being sold. He only said the reason for the sale was because it was quiet, where the number of visits by the public was only around 10 percent to 15 percent in a number of malls.
“Yes, the average per day is around 10-15 percent, on weekends maybe 15 percent, yes, if at the mall I manage BTC Pasteur the visits are below 10 percent,” explained Handianto.
In fact, he continued, the PPKM policy from the local government allowed malls to open with a maximum capacity of 50 percent. However, in reality, community visits have never reached that limit.
He suspects that this is because playgrounds and entertainment venues, such as cinemas in malls, have not been allowed to open. In fact, according to him, people ‘sticky’ not only for shopping, but also for entertainment.
“Actually, we are also grateful for the 50 percent relaxation, but we are asking now not too much, we ask that the entertainment venues are also opened,” he added.
On the other hand, according to him, the opening of playgrounds and entertainment venues in malls needs to be opened immediately so that employees can work again. After all, the majority of mall employees have received injections of the covid-19 vaccine and apply strict health protocols while working.
“For example, the cinema usually has 30 employees. If the cinema is closed, 30 people are missing. Now in Bandung, how many malls are there, maybe hundreds of cinema workers are jobless,” he said.
Furthermore, management accelerated vaccination for employees. Previously, he noted that there were around 6,000 workers who had not been vaccinated.
“Maybe this week in Greater Bandung, all workers will have been vaccinated, yesterday there were still around six thousand workers (who haven’t), but lately many of them are independent, because there is a regulation from the mall government that they must vaccinate,” he concluded.
