Jakarta –
In 2019 Instagram launched Threads, a standalone messaging app without being part of the Instagram app like Facebook Messenger.
But unfortunately the Threads app will no longer be available until the end of 2021. This was confirmed by Instagram’s parent company Meta as reported by detikINET from The Verge.
The Threads app will display a notification asking users to return to Instagram starting November 23.
With Threads, it is possible for users to send photos, videos, messages and Stories to the list of people closest to their Instagram account. Messages sent by close friends will later appear in both Threads and Direct on Instagram.
Meta itself is in the process of consolidating many of its messaging platforms such as Messenger and Instagram which currently supports both cross-platform messaging, and Meta has also said that they plan to include WhatsApp as well.
Threads itself has been deserted since its launch. Last year Threads had just over 200,000 users, a tiny percentage of Instagram’s billions.
In fact in the last year Meta tried to completely redesign the Threads app and expand its use from just close friends flat to all users. But unfortunately the plan did not work.
“We know that people care about connecting with their close friends, and we’ve seen this especially over the last few years with the growth of messaging on Instagram.” said Christine Pai Spokesperson Instagram.
“We are now focusing our efforts on improving the way you connect with close friends on Instagram.” he continued.
