Thirty-one leprosy patients have been without effective treatment since June 2022, in the province of Uíge, due to the lack of medicines in health units in the region.
Speaking to ANGOP, this Monday, the provincial supervisor of the Program to Combat Tuberculosis and Leprosy, Noé Paulo Mendes, said that there are only 24 sheets of tablets in stock.
As a result, Noé Paulo Mendes said that the clinical condition of patients could worsen if this problem is not resolved as quickly as possible.
He explained that of the 31 cases of the disease in the province, six were registered in the first half of this year, in the municipalities of Uíge, Puri, Mucaba and Milunga.
He reported that medical negligence and late contact with health authorities are the basis for the increase in leprosy cases in the region, with the municipalities of Uíge, Songo, Quimbele, Mucaba and Quitexe being the most endemic.
Regarding disease control, the official said that the province of Uíge has focal points in eight municipalities, namely Buengas, Cangola, Milunga, Mucaba, Puri, Quimbele, Songo and Uíge.
