Posted on January 7, 2022 at 10:57 a.m. – – In a brief communication sent on Friday, the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) justifies its decision by the rapidly evolving situation regarding COVID-19. The fifth wave of COVID-19 has caused outbreaks at the Lachine Hospital and there are enough sick employees for the partial closure to be maintained. As has been the case since November 7, ambulatory patients can come to the emergency department of the Lachine Hospital from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., seven days a week. The chairman of the Lachine Hospital Physicians’ Committee, Dr Paul Saba, denounced this reduction in services from the start. In particular, he said in November that four specialists had left during the past year citing the pay gap between caring for patients in Lachine or caring for the same patients downtown. He deplored that a bonus offered by the Quebec government to health workers in intensive care units would attract staff to large hospitals. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Robert Maranda, replied that workers at the Lachine Hospital were eligible for the same bonuses as all other professionals in the network.
