Labor Migration from Russia to Armenia and Kazakhstan Increases by 272% and 70% Respectively

The number of labor migrants from Russia in Armenia increased by 272% over the past year, an influx of Russians is also observed in Kazakhstan, Altynai Omurbekova, director of the Department of Labor Migration and Social Protection of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), told RIA Novosti.

“We keep statistics only on workers, that is, these are people who left to work. We have data for 2022, where there is growth in Armenia and Kazakhstan. For example, in Armenia, growth shows 272% compared to 2021. Also in Kazakhstan – there it is about 70%,” Omurbekova informed today, May 25, on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow.

At the same time, the EEC representative noted that no such trend was observed in Belarus and Kyrgyzstan last year.

Recall that before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, all previous years, the growth in the flow of labor migrants was observed in the opposite direction – from Armenia and other republics of the former USSR to Russia.

From February 24, 2022 to this day, 118,000 people have arrived in Armenia for temporary or permanent residence, the Minister of Economy announced on May 19 Vagan Kerobyan, speaking at the annual Tech Forum in Yerevan. “68,000 of those who arrived have surnames starting with yan, that is, they are Armenians by origin, about 50,000 are representatives of other nations,” the minister said at the time. According to him, these citizens have settled in Armenia and have long-term plans for it.
