Labor market – unemployment is skyrocketing in the district

At the end of November, a total of 1,677 people (744 women, 933 men) were registered as unemployed by the Amstetten Public Employment Service (AMS). This is a significant increase in unemployment in the district (plus 255 unemployed or + 17.9 percent) compared to the previous year and also well above the Lower Austria average, where the increase in unemployment in November was plus 5.4 percent.

Despite rising overall unemployment, the number of long-term unemployed people in the Amstetten district continues to decline: Compared to November of the previous year, the AMS Amstetten recorded a decline in long-term unemployment by 30.2 percent. There are currently 111 people looking for a job for a year or longer. “We know from analyzes that in times of a tense labor market situation, long-term unemployed people are increasingly given the opportunity to re-enter the labor market when companies are recruiting for personnel. We are clearly continuing our intensive advice and mediation as well as targeted support,” says AMS branch manager Harald Vetter.

Youth unemployment rose by a third

The number of unemployed young people in Lower Austria is increasing significantly compared to the previous year, including in the Amstetten labor market district with an increase of 33 percent to 254 registered young people under the age of 25, albeit from a low starting level.

“The counseling practice in the AMS shows that the need for psychosocial support is increasing in the group of young people,” explains AMS boss Harald Vetter. Young people are supported as they enter the training or professional world with a wide range of offerings, such as youth education centers or inter-company apprenticeship training.

“The most important tip for everyone who is orienting themselves on the job market is to get comprehensive information and advice at an AMS-BerufsInfoZentrum (BIZ),” advises the AMS-Amstetten boss.

In the current year, the AMS Amstetten has already filled 4,829 positions with suitable workers. That is 19.6 percent more than in the previous year. This year, the AMS Lower Austria advisors have already made almost 24,000 placement suggestions to job-seeking customers. In addition, a total of 3,667 job seekers were able to end their unemployment by taking up work.
